“The Secret Garden was what Mary called it when she was thinking of it. She liked the name… and the feeling that when its beautiful old walls shut her in no one knew where she was. It seemed almost like being shut out of the world in some fairy place…”

The Secret Garden – Frances Hodgson Burnett

Welcome to the Vandeleur Walled Garden and Visitor Centre. We are set on 170 hectares of native woodlands. On your visit, enjoy walks in the woods, browse the garden centre, or enjoy lunch in the Brambles Woodland Café. To enhance your time with us, purchase a ticket for our Visitor Centre for a glimpse into a time gone by, when the Vandeleur Family lived in the very grand Kilrush House with stables and a walled garden to be envied. Learn about their contribution to Kilrush as we know it now, and also their part in the dark history of the area. Mull over this conflicting history as you stroll in the gorgeously restored Walled Garden which offers a botanical feast for all who visit here.

Kind Words

  • Beautiful Garden. We had a great visit here even though it rained. We had a lunch which was nice, the children loved the butterfly search in the garden. I really enjoyed the garden and took loads of pictures.
